BEFORE AND AFTER: ROOM CONVERSION

Durante bastante tiempo tenía en mente hacer unos cambios en dos de las habitaciones de la casa: la de juegos y el dormitorio de C. La habitación de los juguetes siempre parecía una leonera, por mucho espacio, cajones, baúles, estanterías siempre había desorden en ella y mi idea era la de convertirla en un espacio dónde poder entrar sin arriesgarse uno a matarse -:).

Así que tras mucho pensar y planear lo que hice fue convertir la leon habitación de juegos en el dormitorio de C. 

For a long time I'd been wanting to tackle this mammoth task: clearing out the "playroom" where everything got thrown into and where C and O rarely got to play in it and convert it into a usable, habitable space. 

So after much thought and much planning I converted what was playroom into C's bedroom.

PLANEAR EL ESPACIO primero fue la clave. Para organizar las dos habitaciones lo que hice fue plantearme lo qué tenía y preguntarme qué era lo que necesitaba o quería.

SPACE PLANNING was the key: So to organise the rooms I looked at what I had and asked myself what did I need/want ? :

I had two rooms to work with: 

One used to be C's bedroom (larger than playroom) and the other one was the playroom where every single toy was just thrown in.

Necesitaba una cama extra y un lugar donde acomodar las nuevas aficiones e intereses de C y O, un lugar dónde poder traer a sus amigas, jugar, escuchar música, hacer manualidades......

Después de hacer una "pequeña" limpieza, le di unas manos de pintura a las paredes, pinté un baúl que trasladé a otra parte, y compré unas cortinas en IKEA por menos de diez euros y un sofá cama.

 I needed an extra bed and a place where my growing up girls (with now different interests to what they had a couple of years ago) would be able to bring in their friends, to play, listen to music, do crafts, sleepovers...

After clearing out a "few" things I painted the walls, gave a lick of paint to the storage/bench below (which i ended up using in the hall), got an inexpensive netting curtain in IKEA and a simple sofa bed, repositioned furniture....

Un dormitorio con mucha luz, sencillo y bonito y que más adelante tengo pensado en decorar un poco más (aunque sospecho que C se encargará seguramente de esta tarea -:))

A clean, uncluttered, relaxing, pretty bedroom which I intend to decorate further (although I've no doubt C will be in charge in doing this -:))

Y un estudio dónde traer a sus amiguitas, dónde hacer los deberes, guardar sus libros y juguetes.....

And a studio where to meet friends, do the homework, keep their books and toys and having their friends for sleepovers....

Ahora que la parte más engorrosa del proyecto está terminada tengo pensado pintar el armario del rincón, colgar unos estores que hice inicialmente para la habitación de los juegos y restaurar/pintar el mueble librería que recientemente compré de segunda mano por solo catorce euros y que es demasiado oscuro para mi gusto.

Now that the major work's been completed my next project will be to paint the corner wardrobe, hang up the blinds I originally made for the playroom, and upgrade the bookcase I purchased in a second hand shop for the unbelievable price of €14 which works marvels for the girls books and bits and pieces. But that will be another day's post.
